Salt is a good flavoring agent to promote the appetite of livestock and poultry, but it is a nutrient additive that supplements sodium and chlorine. Sodium and chlorine are important indispensable substances for animal body's physiological activities. Lack of salt will reduce the appetite of the livestock, slow growth, coarse and dull coat, reduced milk production and reproduction, feed utilization, and occasional pica. According to the physiological needs of herbivorous animals, rational addition of salt can effectively improve feed utilization and improve production performance. The specific amount of salt is:
Beef cattle can feed 0.4% of the dry matter of feedstuffs; 0.5% of milk cows are produced, and they are mixed in the mixture at a ratio of 0.5-1%, or they can be made into tincture for free foraging.
Ordinary goats may consume 0.2% of the diet, and breast-feeding and lactating ewes shall be no less than 10 grams per day.
Rabbits can account for 1% of the amount of concentrate feed; usually 1 g/day for adult rabbits; 0.2-0.5 g for rabbits; and 0.5% for rabbits in the diet can meet the needs.
It should be noted that the amount of salt to be added is appropriate. Beware of salt poisoning in livestock. It is best to use fine salt and stir in the feed to achieve uniformity. In summer, the amount of salt can be properly increased, and more attention should be paid to the season of draught and grazing. Add enough salt to ensure adequate drinking water.
